Question: How to Measure the speed of my broadband connection? |
click this link to know the speed of your broadband |
Note: Download speed depends upon various factors (Not only on your Internet Service Provider). The various factors can be: 1. The Server from which you are downloading: For example, if you download a file from Rapidshare, your speed may be even just 5KB per Second. 2. The downloading date and time. Normally speed can be higher when not much of people are not using the Internet. |
How much time it will take to download a file of 400MB from Internet? 400 MB means 400,000 KB 400,000 KB means 400,000 x 8 kbits=3200,000 kbits Normally, maximum speed of broadband connections are of 256kbps speed. that is 256kb download takes .............1 second 3200,000 kb download will take .........12500 seconds =208 min =3.47 hours So it may take a minimum of 3.47 hours to download 400MB data. |

Have a look at this image. The screenshot was captured when I checked my broadband speed using the above speed-test link. It says that my Internet speed is 1.56Mbps. It means 1.56 / 8 = 200 KB of data per Second.

If you want to increase the download speed, you can download and install certain softwares like DAP (DOWNLOAD ACCELERATOR). How this software can increase the speed of download? Your PC will make about 5 separate connections with the web server and all these five connections will start downloading the file simultaneously. So the download speed will increase about 5 times.(But few web servers such as rapidshare will allow multiple connections, when it is free-download) |
